How much is a dental cleaning without insurance?

The cost of a dental cleaning without insurance depends on whether you need a regular cleaning or a deep cleaning, and whether X-rays are due at that visit. If you don't have insurance, our membership plan is $850 a year and covers two cleanings, two fluoride treatments, routine X-rays, and one emergency or limited exam, plus 15% off treatment. Each added family member is $807.50 a year.

What are dental X-rays?

Dental X-rays are images that show what an exam can't: decay between teeth, infection at the tips of the roots, bone loss, and other problems below the gumline. We use digital X-rays, which show up on a screen right away, so Dr. Chang can walk you through what he sees. You don't need them at every visit. We take them when they're due.

How often should I get a dental cleaning?

Most people do well with a cleaning and exam every six months. If you have gum disease or get cavities often, Dr. Chang may recommend coming in more often. If you don't have insurance, our membership plan includes two cleanings and two fluoride treatments a year.

How long does a dental cleaning take?

A routine dental cleaning and exam usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Your first visit with us takes longer, since it starts with a short new patient interview, then digital X-rays, your cleaning, and a full exam with Dr. Chang. A deep cleaning for gum disease is a separate treatment and may be split across more than one visit.

What if it's been years since my last dental visit?

Come in anyway. There's no judgment here. We'll start with an exam and X-rays, show you what we find, and help you decide what to take care of first. If you're nervous, tell us. Dr. Chang slows down, listens, and walks you through each step.

How long after a dental cleaning can I eat?

You can usually eat right after a regular dental cleaning. If you had a fluoride treatment, follow the instructions we give you, since some products ask you to wait about 30 minutes or skip hot and hard foods for a few hours. After a deep cleaning, your gums may be tender for a few days, so softer foods can help.

General dentistry is the everyday care for your teeth and gums: exams, professional cleanings, X-rays, fluoride, fillings, and treatment for gum disease. Preventive care is the part aimed at stopping problems before they start, or finding them early, when the fix is simpler and costs less.

If Dr. Chang finds a problem, he also looks for why it happened, so the same problem doesn't keep coming back.
